Our History
Erfahrung & Kompetenz für Kräne in AKW seit 1984
The company name SKET has been known since 1954. In that year, the company was founded in Magdeburg as “VEB Schwermaschinenbau Kombinat ‘Ernst Thälmann’” (SKET) as part of the reorganization of heavy industry in the GDR.
From 1984 to 1990, SKET Schwermaschinenbau GmbH manufactured and supplied circular cranes for use in the WWER 1000 type nuclear power plants of that time.

From 1985 to October 1996, these special cranes were assembled, commissioned, and handed over to the operators of the nuclear power plants in Eastern Europe under the direction of the then chief engineer of SKET Schwermaschinenbau GmbH, Georg Krüger. These were newly developed cranes for a newly defined purpose. Consequently, during assembly, commissioning, and trial operation, defects were identified and became known firsthand to SKET personnel.
In October 1996, SKET Schwermaschinenbau GmbH, Crane Construction division, was liquidated. Out of this situation, Dipl.-Ing. Georg Krüger founded a company and took over the former SKET personnel. Since then, for 30 years, the company, now operating under the name “SKET Spezialkran GmbH”, protected by the German Patent and Trademark Office, and led by managing director Georg Krüger, has been dedicated to crane services. This young company took on the main task of eliminating the identified problems, which were not fully known to the young operators of the nuclear power plants, to ensure the safety-technical operation of the cranes for the necessary 30 years with new technical solutions.
